Managing Coastal Aquatic Invasive Species in California: Existing Policies and Policy Gaps (Jan 2011; PDF | 1.5 MB)
California State Library. California Research Bureau. CRB-11-001.
This nonpartisan report has been drafted in response to a request from the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee, based on concerns that California lacks a robust framework that can guide policy, regulatory and fiscal decisions in response to coastal aquatic invasive species. This report features relevant background information, as well as a policy framework for analyzing the challenges and opportunities of coastal aquatic invasive species in California. The report focuses on opportunities for improvement over six general policy categories (Authority, Prevention, Research, Control, Implementation, and Coordination) and addresses the vectors, or pathways, through which invasive species are introduced.

Invader Updater
University of Florida. IFAS. Department of Wildlife Ecology & Conservation.
First published in Winter 2009, this quarterly electronic newsletter is published by Dr. Steve Johnson and Monica McGarrity of the University of Florida, IFAS Gulf Coast Research and Education Center. The Invader Updater focuses on topics related to invasive vertebrate animals in Florida and the southeastern U.S. On occasion, we may also cover issues relevant in other parts of the U.S. (or the world), or provide information on nonindigenous species that are not yet considered invasive.

See the new issue of Invader Updater - Summer 2010.

Field Guide to the Nonindigenous Marine Fishes of Florida (Sep 2009)
DOI. USGS. Southeast Ecological Science Center.
NOAA Technical Memorandum NOS NCCOS 92, published in partnership with the NOAA National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science.
This field guide provides species accounts for non-native fishes sighted in estuarine and marine waters of Florida, serving as a "watch list" of invaders that could potentially become established. Most of these are thought to be aquarium fishes that either were illegally released into the ocean or escaped captivity.

Scientific Assessment of Marine Harmful Algal Blooms (2008; PDF | 7.9 MB)
Interagency Working Group on Harmful Algal Blooms, Hypoxia, and Human Health.
This is the last of four reports required by Harmful Algal Bloom and Hypoxia Amendments Act of 2004 (HABHRCA 2004) to address various aspects of HABs in U.S. waters. This report highlights a number of research advances relevant to the HAB-related priorities identified in Charting the Course for Ocean Science in the United States for the Next Decade: An Ocean Research Priorities Plan and Implementation Strategy (PDF | 3.9 MB), released in 2007 by the Joint Subcommittee on Ocean Science and Technology.

Commission for Environmental Cooperation.
The new report, Trinational Risk Assessment Guidelines for Aquatic Alien Invasive Species was developed in cooperation with experts from Canada, Mexico and the United States. These guidelines will be used as a tool for North American resource managers to assess the risk of introducing nonnative species into a natural ecosystem.

Predicting Future Introductions of Nonindigenous Species to the Great Lakes (Final Report, 2008)
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. EPA/600/R-08/066F.
This report predicts the spread of aquatic nonindigenous species into the Great Lakes to help resource managers focus monitoring activities on particular species at the most vulnerable U.S. Great Lakes ports. The report also demonstrates the use of a habitat suitability model and ballast water discharge data to predict invasion potential.
