Pets,
Aquarium, and Terrarium Species: Best Practices for
Addressing Risks to Biodiversity (2010; PDF | 874 KB)
Secreteriat of the Convention on Biological Diversity.
CBD Technical Series No. 48
This report is largely based on the 2008 Expert
Workshop on Preventing Biological Invasions: Best Practices in Pre-Import Risk
Screening for Species of Live Animals in International Trade (University
of Notre Dame, Indiana, Apr 9-11, 2008), summarized in the report Best
Practices in Pre-Import Risk Screening for Species of Live Animals in International
Trade (2009; PDF | 2.1 MB), but contains additional information beyond what
was covered in the workshop.

A Risk Assessment
to Prevent Introduction of Pest Plant Species in Mediterranean
Europe (Jun 10, 2010)
Environmental News Network.
A recent study follows
the needs of the mentioned legislative acts validating
the effectiveness of a Weed Risk Assessment adapted
for Mediterranean Europe. Many countries in the
world have already adopted a WRA with the purpose
of identifying high-risk species, thereby allowing
decision-making on prevention and eradication
so as to avoid ecological and economic harm.

Eliminating Weeds Could Put
More Cows on the Pasture (Apr 28, 2010)
USDA.
Agricultural Research Service.
An online weed calculator developed by an Agricultural Research Service scientist tells ranchers the number of additional cows they could raise if they eliminated one or two widespread exotic invasive weeds.

This site helps land managers decide which approach
is best for their situation when battling leafy
spurge or spotted knapweed. It accepts location-specific
weed abundance data from land managers and uses these data to estimate
weed impacts. The
weed impact estimates help managers decide whether
or not to use costly weed control measures to battle leafy spurge/spotted
knapweed.

Environmental
Assessment – Eurasian Watermilfoil / Curlyleaf Pondweed Research
Project: Sanders County (May 2009; PDF | 534 KB)
Montana Department of Agriculture.
Currently, the only known infestation of eurasian
watermilfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum) in Montana is
in Noxon Rapids and Cabinet Gorge Reservoirs where
the plant was first discovered in 2007. Spread of
this plant has the potential to impact aquatic environments
and impair recreational resources.

National
Forests in North Carolina Approves Non-Native Invasive
Species Control Project (PDF | 20 KB) (Mar
4, 2009) USDA. FS. National Forests in North Carolina.
Forest Supervisor, Marisue Hilliard, has approved a strategy to control non-native invasive plants on the Nantahala and Pisgah National Forests. Native plants can be overrun by invading non-native plants. It is this group of plants land managers are attempting to control with the approval of this project.
The project will annually treat up to 1,100 acres of non-native invasive plants using a variety of methods.

Plant Stewardship Index
Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve.
The Plant Stewardship Index is an analytical tool for land conservationists, land managers and property owners. The Index is designed to assist in answering two questions: What is the
naturalness of any site? How have land management practices (or their absence)
affected that naturalness over time?
