CalWeedMapper
CalWeedMapper is a new Web site for mapping invasive plant spread and planning regional management in California. Users generate a report for their region that synthesizes information into three types of strategic opportunities: surveillance, eradication and containment. Land managers can use these reports to prioritize their invasive plant management, to coordinate at the landscape level (county or larger) and to justify funding requests. For some species, CalWeedMapper also provides maps of suitable range that show where a plant might be able to grow in the future. The system was developed by the California Invasive Plant Council and is designed to stay current by allowing users to edit data.

Guide to Implementation of Phytosanitary Standards in Forestry (2011) / YouTube Rap by Dr. Kerry Britton -- Don't be Bugged by Pests - go FAO!
This guide, produced by an international group of scientists, phytosanitary authorities, forest experts and industry representatives and reviewed by more than 100 specialists from 46 countries, provides easy-to-understand information on how good forest management practices and well implemented phytosanitary standards can minimize pest spread and facilitate safe trade. The guide will be of vital interest to people involved in nursery activities, planting, managing, harvesting, manufacturing, trading and transporting forest products. It will also benefit forest policy-makers, planners, managers and educators, particularly in developing countries.

Building an EDRR Network in Montana Using Invaders Database (2010; PDF | 2 MB)
Montana State University. Extension Service.
Six workshops were held across Montana in 2010. Actively watching for new invaders and acting quickly to remove them before they can establish and spread is the foundation of an EDRR network. A well developed EDRR program has the potentional to save the State of Montana and private land owners a great deal of time and money.

Plant Diseases That Threaten U.S. Agriculture: Identified and Prepared For Under the National Plant Disease Recovery System
USDA. ARS. Office of Pest Management.
These recovery plans are a cooperative effort of university, industry, and government scientists. The plans outline what the scientists know about the disease, indicate the current preparedness, suggest the best IPM approach, and recommend priority research and education needs. There are three new recovery plans of national significance developed under the National Plant Disease Recovery System. They concern Rathayibacter poisoning, laurel wilt, and Ug99.

A Risk Assessment to Prevent Introduction of Pest Plant Species in Mediterranean Europe (Jun 10, 2010)
Environmental News Network.
A recent study follows the needs of the mentioned legislative acts validating the effectiveness of a Weed Risk Assessment adapted for Mediterranean Europe. Many countries in the world have already adopted a WRA with the purpose of identifying high-risk species, thereby allowing decision-making on prevention and eradication so as to avoid ecological and economic harm.

Eliminating Weeds Could Put More Cows on the Pasture (Apr 28, 2010)
USDA. Agricultural Research Service.
An online weed calculator developed by an Agricultural Research Service scientist tells ranchers the number of additional cows they could raise if they eliminated one or two widespread exotic invasive weeds.

Invasive Weed Impact Calculator
USDA. Agricultural Research Service; Montana State University Extension.
This site helps land managers decide which approach is best for their situation when battling leafy spurge or spotted knapweed. It accepts location-specific weed abundance data from land managers and uses these data to estimate weed impacts. The weed impact estimates help managers decide whether or not to use costly weed control measures to battle leafy spurge/spotted knapweed.
