Species
Profile -- Chilli Thrips
USDA. NAL. National Invasive Species
Information Center.
Chilli thrips first detected Palm Beach County, Florida, is an invasive pest that feeds on leaves, turns them brown, kills new growth and attacks up to 150 crops, including peppers, strawberries, tomatoes, peanuts, cotton and a variety of ornamentals. It has spread to over 20 Florida counties and parts of Texas, damaging roses and other ornamentals in both states. Left unchecked, it could reach west to California and north along the Pacific Coast to Canada, causing losses of up to $3.8 billion annually.

Species
Profile -- Citrus Longhorned Beetle
USDA. NAL. National Invasive Species
Information Center.
The citrus longhorned beetle (CLHB), is a serious pest of citrus in China
but did not occur in the U.S. until it was detected in a Washington nursery in
2001, which was subsequently eradicated. With a host range of more than 40 hardwood
species, CLHB is a potential threat to natural areas as well as fruit trees and
woody ornamental plants. Unlike many other native borer pests that primarily
attack dead trees, CLHB attacks apparently healthy trees. Once established, it
can be extremely difficult and expensive to eradicate.

Update of Asian Citrus Psyllid and Citrus Greening Quarantine Areas (Jan 28, 2009):
The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is expanding the Asian citrus psyllid (Diaphorina citri) (ACP) quarantine area in California and expanding the quarantine areas in Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas to include the entirety of those States. This action is necessary in order to prevent the interstate spread of ACP. Two parishes in Louisiana (Orleans and Washington) are now under quarantine for citrus greening (Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus).
For more information see our Species profiles for Asian Citrus Psyllid and for Citrus Greening.

Species Profile
-- Mediterranean
Fruit Fly
USDA. NAL.
National Invasive Species Information Center.
The Mediterranean fruit fly is one of the world's
most destructive fruit pests. Because of its wide distribution over the world,
its ability to tolerate colder climates better than most other species of fruit
flies, and its wide range of hosts, it is ranked first among economically important
fruit fly species.
