Researchers Learn Why Invasive Plants are Spreading Rapidly in Forests (Dec 10, 2009)

Researchers at Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences have linked the rapid spread of invasive plants in Eastern forests to forest road maintenance and the type of dirt and stone used on roads. Perhaps the most startling finding of the research "Forest Roads Facilitate the Spread of Invasive Plants," (Invasive Plant Science and Management (Jul/Sep 2009) relates to the nature of dirt and gravel on forest roads that enables invasive plants such as Japanese stiltgrass to thrive.
