U.S. House of Representatives - Subcommittee Examines Ways to Prevent and Control Harmful Algal Blooms (Sep 17, 2009)
Note: The House Committee on Science and Technology's Subcommittee on Energy and Environment held a legislative hearing to examine harmful algal blooms and hypoxia research and response needs, in order to create and implement a plan that would monitor, prevent, mitigate, and control both marine and fresh water bloom and hypoxia events. Specifically, Subcommittee Members heard testimony on the draft legislation, The Harmful Algal Blooms and Hypoxia Research and Control Act of 2009.

Dr. Marie Colton will be the new director of the NOAA's Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory, as of Oct 11. Dr Colton's priorities include developing ecological forecasts to predict changes such as harmful algal blooms, beach and water quality, and invasive species impacts.
