Multistate Outbreak of Human Salmonella Infections Caused by Contaminated Dry Dog Food --- United States, 2006—2007

CDC collaborated with public health officials in Pennsylvania, other states, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to investigate a prolonged multistate outbreak of Salmonella enterica serotype Schwarzengrund infections in humans. Now Available: Peer Review Panel Report on the Validation Status of New Versions and Applications of the Murine Local Lymph Node Assay (LLNA)

In March 2008, the National Toxicology Program Interagency Center for the Evaluation of Alternative Toxicological Methods (NICEATM), in collaboration with the Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Validation of Alternative Methods (ICCVAM), convened an independent international scientific peer review panel (hereafter, “Panel�) to evaluate new versions and applications of the LLNA, an alternative test method for assessing the allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) potential of chemicals and products. Agriculture Secretary Ed Schafer Announces Plan To End Exceptions To Animal Handling Rule

AVMA Discourages Use of Conventional Leghold Traps, Sets Guidelines for Humane Trapping

The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) adopted a revised policy on trapping and steel-jawed leghold traps that discourages use of old-fashioned traps in favor of modern, modified traps and techniques that reduce injuries and capture of non-target animals.
